Field Spaniel Breed Highlights
-
History.
The Field Spaniel originated from England in the 1800’s. Like many working breeds, they were almost wiped out by World War II.
Today, the breed is increasingly gaining recognition as a handsome and versatile dog of sound health, good disposition, willing temperament, with good hunting drive and scenting ability, and as we embark into the 21st century, Field Spaniels are especially prized as favourites in the home, where they are well-loved, great family companions.
-
Personality.
The Field Spaniel is a very sweet and affectionate dog, with lots of energy to burn. Field Spaniels are easygoing, sensitive, fun-loving, independent, and smart. Temperament is affected by a number of factors, including heredity, training, and socialization.
-
Coat & Grooming.
The Field Spaniel has a dense, water-repellent single coat, meaning there's no undercoat. His hair is moderately long and can be flat or slightly wavy. Field Spaniels require much less grooming than other spaniel breeds. The coat should be brushed regularly and bathed as needed.
-
Active Dogs.
Field Spaniels are active dogs and require regular exercise. Field Spaniels love water and will play in any water they find, including their water bowl in the house. They will share the fun by bringing the water to you also.
-
Size.
Females measure between 38 to 39cms at the withers, male dogs between 39 to 41cms. Both sexes weigh between 18 - 25kgs.
-
Children & Pets.
Field Spaniels are fond of children, but noisy roughhousing isn't their style. Harper is prone to walk towards kids and prams when she ses them approaching. She was socialised with kids from puppy stage & adores kids.
